Privacy Policy
Who we are
Handyman-leeds.com is run by Oliver, a handyman working in and around Leeds. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Handyman-leeds.com. We are responsible for any personal information you give us through this website, by phone or by email.
This policy explains, in plain English, what information we collect, why, and what your rights are under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
If you have any questions, please contact us by email at admin@handyman-leeds.com or by phone on 07804 616958.
What information we collect
When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, phone number (if you choose to give it) and your message. The form sends your details to Oliver by email. The website itself does not keep a copy.
When you phone or email us, we receive your phone number or email address and anything you tell us about the job.
If we do work for you, we keep the details we need for the job, such as your name, address, contact details, quotes, invoices and payments.
When you visit the website, some basic technical information is recorded automatically:
- Our web hosting company keeps standard server logs, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visited and the time of your visit. These help keep the website running properly.
- The website’s security software records IP addresses and login attempts to protect the site from hacking and spam.
- The website’s fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, and some small icons may be loaded from WordPress.org. To show them, your browser connects to their servers, which can see your IP address.
We do not use analytics or advertising tools to track you. We never sell your information.
Why we use it and our lawful basis
- To reply to your enquiry, give you a quote and arrange work. We do this because you have asked us to, as a step before entering into a contract with you, and to carry out the work if you go ahead.
- To keep business, tax and accounting records. We do this because the law requires it, and because it is in our legitimate interests to run our business properly.
- To keep the website working and secure. We do this because it is in our legitimate interests to protect the website and its visitors.
We will not send you marketing messages.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries are kept only for as long as we need them. If you do not become a customer, we normally delete them within 2 years.
- If you become a customer, we keep your details for as long as needed for our records. For example, we keep invoices and payment records for 6 years for tax and accounting purposes.
- Server and security logs are kept by our web host and security software for a limited time and are then deleted automatically.
Who we share it with
We only share your information where we need to:
- Our web hosting company, which runs the website and the servers it is stored on.
- Our email provider, because messages from the contact form and emails you send us are delivered to our email inbox.
- Google Fonts and WordPress.org, as explained above, which see your IP address when the page loads.
- Authorities such as HMRC, but only if the law requires it.
Some of these companies may process information outside the UK. Where that happens, the law requires suitable safeguards to be in place.
Our website includes a link to Facebook. If you click that link, you leave our website and Facebook’s own privacy policy applies.
Cookies
Cookies are small files that a website can save on your device. When you browse this website as a visitor, it does not set any cookies. We do not use any analytics, tracking or advertising cookies.
Cookies are only used when the website owner logs in to manage the site. If we ever add cookies that are not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent first, as the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) require.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete
- ask us to delete your information
- object to us using your information, or ask us to limit how we use it
- ask us to send your information to you or another organisation in a commonly used format
To use any of these rights, just contact us at admin@handyman-leeds.com or on 07804 616958. There is normally no charge, and we will reply within one month. Some rights have exceptions, for example where we must keep records by law.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first and we will do our best to put it right.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator: ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page.
